Very unusual portrait, believed to be a hand tinted/coloured photograph on board, with some hand painted detailing on the lady’s collar and other areas. In wonderful aged condition with some wear around the corners. Would look great framed, or propped up on a shelf. We think the lady is Victorian, possibly a widow as she is dressed in Black.

Hand colouring, or tinting, was a method of manually adding colour to a black and white photograph, to add realism or for artistic purposes. It was popular in the mid-late 19th century, before colour photography was introduced.
